Comm Error
All,
I've been using the ADAU1701 processor in a couple different setups, all are based on the FreeDSP layout. I have recently been getting intermittent (say 90% of the time) "Comm Error" messages when I upload my firmware. At first I thought this was due to windows 8. But then i was able to get a string of successful downloads. I can't pin it down to any certain order of operations, and my USB devices says the USBi is working Okay.
Could this be the USBi device hardware? Or is this a hiccup with the Windows 8 incompatibility? I would try on a win 7 machine but the HD died on that and I've already invested in a windows 8 machine.
Suggestions?

Hello Steve,
We have not released any drivers for Windows 8 and we do not test it. So it may be a Windows 8 problem or it can be a USBi problem. Is the file (the program) really large?
How old is your USBi? What is the rev number on it?

Hi Dave
Any reason for the lack of windows 8 support?
The file is not very large. It has 4 filter blocks and a 3 way crossover. in mono, not stereo.
The USBi device has a 1.3 marking on top of the board next to the USB connection port.
Thanks
Hello Steve,
As a company our IT department never allowed any of our machines to have Windows 8 installed. I think we will be skipping to ver 10 soon. Security and robustness is a big issue for large organizations and Windows 8 left a lot to be desired.
There is a possibility that the USBi may be causing you some issues but that is usually with large file or data transfers.
I am not familiar with the FreeDSP layout. Can you send me a picture so I can see some details? There may be a hardware component to this.

Hi Dave,
That makes sense now! We went through similar questions about windows 8 at our company, I understand.
The system seems to be working just fine on another computer. Windows 8 w/ USB 3.0. I haven't gone back to the old computer to double check things yet. I was just happy to get moving with my project.
The FreeDSP is an open source design that utilizes the ADAU1701 it seems to be proven and I've had several boards including this one working on other systems.
I'll circle back to the other machine and see if I'm still having troubles. Either way I have a working solution and can move forward.
I appreciate your time Dave!
