Thread Summary

The user asked how to calculate parameters for peak and RMS compressors in Sigma Studio when using an MCU to control the ADAU1452 via SPI. The final answer directed the user to a thread on Limiter Calc for guidance. Additional answers provided a link to a document on compressor table format and noted that the soft knee calculation is proprietary but can be approximated with curve fitting. The standard compressor offers better resolution for fine gain changes compared to the full range compressor.

Dear support team,

I use a MCU to control the adau1452 thru SPI interface. I want to know how to calculate the parameters of peak and rms compressors in sigma studio. For example,I use a RMS full range compressor, how can I calculate the RMS TC,hold time, decay and MonoNoPostGainS300FullRange1points when setting soft knee or not?

Thanks.

Hello,

There is a very informative thread that discusses how to calculate those parameters for use with an external MCU! It can be found here: Limiter Calc

Tylerk,

Thank you for the answer which is helpful for me, but how to calculate the data points of compressor curve (as shown in the figure below) when setting soft knee or not?And what's the defference between standard and full range compressors in calculating these data points?

thanks.

Hello Keyson,

This post may help some:

The calculation for the soft knee I cannot share but you can do some sort of curve fitting to smooth out the transition.

The standard vs full range compressors are simply that one is over a wider range. So you will not have as much resolution for fine gain changes because there is more space between points with the wider range compressor. If you do not need to change much at low levels then choose the standard one.
