Hi ADI Eng

We used ADAU1701 as a DSP processor for an amplifier (80&200W) design, we heard popping noise when real-time adjust the shelf knob. We have tried two different DSP designed-block in below, please kindly advise a solution, many thanks.

Method A:

Method B:

HI:

SigmaStudio does have index selectable filter that allows smooth filter transition between filters. I suggest you use this type. The one thing you do need to know is that users will have to wait for a full filter transition before a different filter is elected.

Newer algorithms have algorithm options that allow smoother filter transitions. In other words, there are options available for solving your problem.

Hello,

I tried to duplicate the "pop" noise by running the schematic below on a ADAU1701MINIZ eval board. I cannot hear any pop as I turn the pot attached to AUX ADC 3 (the only one available on this board).

Adding the DC Block filter before the shelf filter (as shown above) helps prevent "pop" noises by removing any DC offset coming from the ADCs. I didn't notice any problem with turning the pot slowly or quickly, but if rapid turning causes pops or zipper noise, you could try inserting a lowpass filter right at the AUX ADC to slow it down.

Best regards,

Bob
