BabyNSX Question

I'm interested in maximizing the number of audio channels available as input into this device. There are a total of 4 microphone/analog inputs and a single TDM capable digital serial input (2-8ch).

In working with SigmaStudio the channel routing and design elements limit the channel count in the schematic flow to just 4 individual channels. Each of these can be configured to be any analog or digital input; however, the maximum number of simultaneous signals appears to be 4.

Is this a hardware limit of the ADAU1772 or a limit imposed on the part through SigmaStudio based on the expected use cases?

Ideally I'd like to have access to all 4 analog inputs, the 2 analog outputs as well as sending digital audio in and out of the chip.

Thanks,

Doug

Seems I hit a key that marked this question as answered when it hasn't been... and can't see how to "un-mark" it.

Hello Doug,

Sorry I cannot help you with the question being marked as "assumed answered". I am not a moderator on this part of the forum. So I guess I will have to "assume" to answer your question! LOL

The core is limited to four signal paths for the data. There is no way around that. Now, you can process more channels through the part just not through the DSP. For instance, you can take a digital signal into the serial port and route it right out the digital output port. This is very handy to daisy chain two parts together and have a single TDM stream into the part with four channels of ADCs in the stream and combine it with the on-chip four channels and route all 8 channels onto one TDM stream out. So in the right application this can be handy.

Another thing is that you could route two of the ADC outputs (could be more but I am using 2 as an example) and route them to the serial output. Then you can take two channels of the serial input and send them up to the DSP core along with the other two ADCs. You can sum the signals in the DSP and then you can add two of the core outputs to the serial output along with the ADCs that bypassed the core. So in that sense six signals are being sent out.

But, in the end you still can only run four signals in the DSP.

This part was not designed to be a huge DSP, in fact, it is more of a filter engine then a DSP.

I hope this answer helps.
