DC offset in audio ADC
Re-post for user: Jackie This question was inadvertently rejected
Hi,
I found a DC offset in ADC data.
I connect a moving-coil microphone to ADC via a 10uF cap( of course there is an amplifier , and an in-serial 18K resistor). After linear gain - EQ - volume control - ....flow, by the end sent to an uC. No DC control in the schematic. We can see an DC offset in the signal. I want know where it comes from? Thank you.
Jackie
Hello Jackie,
All ADCs have a DC offset that is caused by mismatches in the front end of the ADC. You did not supply a part number so I do not know which part you are using so I cannot point you to a specific register. All ADCs will have a register setting that engages a High Pass Filter (HPF) which will remove the DC offset. These filters tend to have a cutoff around 3 to 5 Hz so it will not degrade the audio performance of the ADC.
Thanks for asking.

Hi, it's always a good idea to place a DC blocking filter (in the toolbox under "miscellaneous ") after the ADC. Bob
Hi Lisa, DaveThib, Bob,
It is great to get your feedback in such a short time! Thank you all very much!
The part number of DSP is ADAU1701.
By the way, I would like to know does ADI has a plan to EOL ADAU1701? Our new product just comes to market after 2 years developping. If it is getting EOL, it should be a desaster to us.
Jackie
Hello Tan,
I know that right now there is no plan to obsolete these but I will inquire about it. So will your product be coming to market 2 years from now or has it been in development for 2 years and is coming to market now?
How long do you anticipate the product life to span once sales begin?
What is your expected annual volume for this part?
Thanks,
Dave T
Hi Dave,
The product is now enterring into the market, for sure we must fix this bug asap.
The current model's life time is more than 2~3 years. I think we will use this DSP in new models in the future as well.
At the beginning, we have orderred one package of 3K pcs. I think we will need 6K more in the rest of this year. From next year, we will need more due to the spreading out in the market, let's say it could be more than 50K.
Thanks,
Jackie
Hi all:
The 1701 is a VERY popular audio part, I don't think there are any plans to EOL at this time.
Miguel
Hello Miguel,
Yes, "ADAU1701" appears to be the most popular search tag in the SigmaDSP space. It's good to know that it will be around for awhile. Where I work our first -1701-based product sells better than what it replaced, and we have two more designs in the works.
