Hello guys! I have been thinking about making a small audio DSP board, which combines adau1701 and the programmer. Something you plug into a USB port, connect audio input and audio output cables, open SigmaStudio and do whatever. Does anybody know, is it possible to build a custom programming board for adau1701, which is also accepted by SigmaStudio, so that I could just plug one board in a USB slot, open SigmaStudio and make something up? I am asking such a question, because as far as I know the EVAL-ADUSB2EBZ uses a proprietary firmware, which I am not so sure is available for using and downloading.

Hello Stanislav,

It is possible to build such a board. Yes, the firmware is proprietary but I do know that some people have cracked it and have a solution on the web. You may want to look around the web. Obviously we cannot vouch for any of these solutions nor guarantee that they will work.

Thank you Dave. Of course cracked things should be there, it is not a question. I just wanted to find out, whether AD offers any normal legal solution for engineers to build a custom programming board for SigmaDSP processors? RealTime operation within SigmaStudio would be great of course, but if it is not possible, is there any way to make a board that at least can upload a compiled SigmaStudio firmware into EEPROM on my adau1701 custom evaluation board?

Hello Stanislav,

My understanding is that you want to include the USBi (our internal short name for the EVAL-USB2EBZ) into your eval board. I don't think we have released the code for it which is why I mentioned the cracked version.

Now we encourage people to include the 10-way header on their custom boards so that they can use the USBi to program the board. The EEPROM will be in the I2C bus, like it is in the Eval board, and if you drop an EEPROM into your SigmaStudio project then you can easily program it using SigmaStudio. You just have to implement jumpers or switches for the WP and Selfboot functions.

Then once it is programmed you can have your board selfboot and you can open up your project in SigmaStudio. Then you click on Link/Compile/Connect and SigmaStudio will be controlling your hardware in real time. As long as the program is the exact same program that is stored on the EEPROM.

Thank you Dave, sure I use USBi in general, just I wanted to know whether AD has made the USBi code open in order hobbyists might build their own custom USBis. Thank you for the explanations!
