I am trying to make a dsp guitar effect using elekator adau 1701 and arduino board.

I was succesfull to setup the component which was instructed in the elekator product site.

So, now i am trying to program the dsp board with arduino board.

I used tera term to send "eeprom.hex" file, that was made by sigmastudio.

But when i send it, nothing happens.

I can not trouble shoot what the problem is..

Is it because of some fault with dsp board. I connected the dsp board and arduino board with wires.

Also, i put a led in the dsp board and it lights up. I am using 6v dc battery for power supply.

Please can any one give me advice.

I would suggest checking to see if you have set JP1 according to the Elektor instructions--I imagine that pulls down the WP pin of the EEPROM and/or the SELFBOOT pin of the ADAU. Then I'd scope the SCL and SDA pins to check for proper data flow. If that works, I'd selfboot the ADAU and monitor the same. Possible issues I can think of: the EEPROM is inserted incorrectly, the EEPROM address does not match in SigmaStudio, your programming utility (this is not an ADI product) is not sending correct data.

ADI designed the ADAU to be programmed with their own USBi board, which you can find here:

http://www.analog.com/en/design-center/evaluation-hardware-and-software/evaluation-boards-kits/BFEXT-USBI2EZB.html

I am not sure what Arduino would add to that process, but the USBi works quite well and is not expensive, and you can develop in SigmaStudio in real time and without setting jumpers and pressing reset buttons manually on your target board with each program upload if you have implemented the same functionality as ADI does on their eval kit -1701 board. If you can get your ADAU to work directly with the USBi, then you know the problem has to lie elsewhere, either with the EEPROM or your programming utility.

First, ???.hex files are text files containing hexadecimal digits. You will need a program such as avrdude.exe to translate these text characters into their binary prior to sending them to the arduino. Second, you will need to write a program for the arduino to forward these binary bytes to the dsp board.

Thanks guys for replying to me.

Actually, this is my senior project and the presentation is 2 weeks from now.

jon71 I scoped the sda and scl but there is no data flow when i try to send the eeprom information from arduino board. The voltage is very low when i measured it. Also, I think the problem is that arduino board doesnt send data to dsp board. Today, i was in the lab whole day and the professor assistant could not figure it out. The problem is if i cant make it to work even once then i fail my senior project and cant graduate till fall. And it took like 1 and half month for this elekator adau1701 board to arrive here in balimore, us. If i would try usbi device than it would take way to long. Also, what does WP stand for and what is it s function?

Byron!62Watkins I am real novice at dsp and arduino but i looked at this video from elekator and i thought i could do it. I used Tera Term software to send the "E2PROM.Hex" file to arduino whie it is connected with K9 pin of the dsp board as instructed, i change the com port to arduino and change the baud to 19200 but nothing happens like shown in this video. The window is just blank. I tried this with jumper on and off JP1. When i send the .hex file from tera term to arduino, the receive led bleeps in arduino but not the send data led.

I am sorry to be such a pain in the u know what, but please is there any thing i can do.

I cant even find the schematic for this board to trouble shoot.

Please help guys

Elektor - ADAU1701 Universal Audio DSP Board - YouTube

This is the video where i did almost exactly the same thing. I did use normal lab wires to connect dsp and arduino.

Hi Kishan99, please see this discussion:

ADAU1701 read problem with I2C (including pictures)

I run into troubles while attempting to control a 1701 with an Arduino some time ago.

The problem is in the standard arduino library used for I2C, that is unable to create the proper waveforms

for the 1701. I ended up using a different library (called TwiMaster) that worked very well.

I don't know if the situation for the standard I2C library has changed in the meantime, but this "limitation" was known also at the time, but the changed never managed to reach the official distribution ....

Hope this helps .... Good luck!

Is it possible to send the e2prom.hex file from twimaster? And i have to use the direct method for this, right bud?
