Dear,

I plan to integrate an ADAU1452 DSP.

In the data sheet is a passage about CLKOUT capabilities of the DSP.
"The CLKOUT pin can drive more than one external slave IC"

I would use the CLKOUT to drive 3x CS4398 D/A and 1x CS5361 A/D.
They are all on the same PCB near to the DSP.

Is it recommend to use a CLK Buffer in this constellation (any recommended
ICs?) or is it just fine to feed these A/D and D/As directly from the CLKOUT
Pin?
Or should I use an external oscillator to feed all of them.

Thanks for your support!

kind regards

Hi,

When driving more than one load, I always recommend using a clock distribution buffer, using proper power supply decoupling and line termination for best signal integrity and EMI performance. Using either the ADAU1452 internal oscillator run from a crystal, or an external stand-alone oscillator will be a good way to clock your system. The external oscillator will give you slightly more flexibility with the placement of these components. A passive crystal used with the ADAU1452 should be placed as close as possible to the device.

Regards,

Coleman

Okay, thanks for the quick response!

I think i will use a distribution buffer driven by crystal and termination for each MCLK.

Just for better layout flexibility.
