Hello,
i'm an Italian student working on its Master of Science thesis trying to achieve higher performances using feedback control and digital signal processing algorithms.

Since my thesis is developed in collaboration with an Italian company, I have to enhance one of their products equipped with an ADAU1701.

I've already tried to use SigmaStudio, but its capabilities are not enough for my purposes: I would need of some personalization of the
algorithms and lower level programming... it would be great to have a direct interface with MATLAB, but at least I think I will need to code in C++.

Is there any way to do so on the ADAU1701?
Have you any suggestion?

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

I'm sorry that no one has yet responded to your inquiry so far. There's something called SigmaSudio Server which appears to integrate with MATLAB -- please see, for example, https://ez.analog.com/message/118596#11859. There's no C compiler for SigmaDSPs, because the whole idea is to replace writing code with the GUI blocks. ADI programmers and third-party developers (such as the ones who made the licensed algorithms shown) write the DSP code behind these blocks in assembler language. Any C compiler for the -1701 would necessarily appear rather strange due to the nature of this special-purpose processor -- for example, there's no branch instruction.

If you would like to pursue any of this further, perhaps the best route is to have someone at the company with whom you're working ask about what's involved with becoming a developer or otherwise obtaining whatever tools are involved. In the meantime, don't sell SigmaStudio short -- you have access to low-level DSP functions like add-delay-multiply, and a hierarchy feature for "subroutines". Searching through this forum will demonstrate some rather amazing things that have been done with it.

BTW -- if by "feedback" you mean, for example, motion feedback from a speaker cone through the DSP and back around, be aware of the latency introduced by the -1701's ADCs and DACs. It totals about 50 samples, enough to render such feedback unusable beyond a few tens of Hz. By contrast the ADAU1772 is designed for low latency, typically for noise-cancelling headphones and similar applications.

Best regards,

Bob
