Is it possible for SigmaStudio to communicate with other chips via SPI?
Hi,
I have an ADAU1701 on a EVAL-ADAU1701MINIZ.
We can program it via the USB interface and I2C easy enough.
We want to know if we can use the SPI interface to communicate with another processor for further processing.
Our program has done the hard bit that we wanted a DSP for, but is now full and we can't fit a bigger program onto it. Can we send the DSPs output to another processor via the SPI to do the final bit of number crunching?
SPI is mentioned occasionally in the datasheets for the ADAU1701 and the EVAL-ADAU1701MINIZ but never in enough detail to figure out how to set it up.
Thanks,
Dan

Dan, if you are using self-boot mode then ADAU1701 is running I2C as master rather than SPI. You could use one of the digital outs to send signal to another processor. You could use two 1701s for example, but you should evaluate whether you want to do that or use something like 1446 instead. I chose to use two 1701s because I needed the analog I/O and it's a physically smaller solution than 1446 (plus I/O), but 1446 still has almost twice the processing of two 1701s and a larger library too.
Hi Jon,
thanks for answering that for me.
I would have replied earlier but I was out the office last week without internet access.
