Hello, how are you?

I have been using ADAU1701 with microcontroller, interfacing using i2c mode at 400Khz.

I would like to know what would be the maximum practical (safe) speed using it in SPI mode? The datasheet doesn't say it. Can I expect 1Mbps or more?

Would it be OK if I don't connect the COUT pin, so the DSP only receives data, but I can't read it back? Then I could get away with only 3 pins of the microcontroller.

Thank you very much!

Hello,

Table 7. of datasheet: 6.25 MHz.

Yes, you do not need to connect COUT, as it is either three-stated or an output.

Reinhard

Sorry I missed it! That should be the maximum speed, but can I operate at 1 Mhz? I intend to use an isolator, ADUM1401 that is pretty slow, so I have the slow down the bus because of it's propagation delay. Would that be OK?

Hello,

Table 7 states only minimum time values for the SPI clock. Therefore only the maximum clock frequency must be observed and you can clock the interface at 1 MHz.
