Hello people,

I am working with a 1701 DSP and I would like to use some delay on a signal.

What I basically need is to delay the signal to pass through for a certain amount of milliseconds and then read that signal to turn on a LED.

Is there a way to accomplish that easily? I can't find a block that could help me with that in my Tree Toolbox in SigmaStudio.

I would appreciate any help.

thank you

Dimitris

Hi Dimitris,

Ive moved this discussion from the Processors and DSP community to the SigmaDSP Processor and SigmaStudio Development Tool community. PLease continue this discussion here.

Thanks,

Hello Dimitris,

Yes, this can be easily done. First, let me assume that you need to output both your delayed audio signal, as well as the LED indication. The block diagram below shows this method:

How well this would work depends on the delay range you need, as well as its accuracy. The -1701's ADC and DAC each introduce about 25 samples of delay -- corresponding to a half-millisecond each at fs = 48KHz. As a result, your delay cannot go below 1 mS. The -1701's 2K data memory is enough to delay a mono signal by 42 mS @ 48KHz. Thus, your delay range would be from 1 to 43 mS. Data memory used elsewhere in the project may reduce the maximum somewhat. Cut this in half for stereo.

If you only need the delayed LED indication, you could use a timer as shown below. This has fewer limitations since you're not actually delaying the audio. The delay range can be from 0.5 mS to many seconds.

Finally, there's several ways to bring your desired delay setting into the timer / delay. If your final system will include a microcontroller, it can write the desired setting via I2C or SPI. If you plan to run self-boot, you can have one of the -1701's control ADCs adjust the timing according to a potentiometer input.

Please define your requirements a little more. This will make it easier for forum participants to help with the needed toolbox blocks and a possible signal flow.

Best regards,

Bob
