I would like to know what the rise and fall times are for the BCLK outputs on the ADAU1442 so I can determine the length of traces I can use and whether or not to buffer them

Thanks

Gerry

Hi Gerry,

I am afraid that the answer here is not very simple, because the load on the pin can have a great impact on the rise time - the answer is generally in the single-digit nanoseconds, but that does not really describe the ringing and overshoot that can occur. We provide an IBIS model for the ADAU144x; if you have access to simulation software, you can optimize your signal integrity. Otherwise, we specify 2 levels of current drive capability, 2 mA (low strength) and 6 mA (high strength), for each drive port. If you do not have any simulation tools, I would recommend that you keep things simple by adding a series resistor at the source end, start with 22.1 ohms and see what the waveform looks like at the load.

Best regards,

Coleman
