ByronS Question

I've been making use of the white noise generator with the pinking filter after it. For my first application it works perfectly, but I have another application where the requirements are a bit more stringent. One question about the noise generation algorithm.......is it truly random and considered to be non-deterministic?

Hi Byron:

The White noise is truly random, for further control we do provide a similar algorithm with a seed value that you can modify to seed the white noise differently every time you turn the algorithm on.

FYI, the 145x has a built in hardware random number generator that could either generate gausian or triangular noise distribution.

Let me know if you have further questions.

Thanks Miquel. For the application the white noise would be running constantly so I wouldn't be starting and stopping it, and therefore wouldn't have a need to seed it differently each time it runs. So far I'm looking at using the 1701, but for this new project I have flexibility over which device gets used.

I Appreciate the response.

Hi Miguel,

I wonder if you have any further information you could share on the white noise source.

I noticed your comment that it is "truly random" but I had thought this was more likely to be a prbs algorithm.

Could you confirm either way?

The feasibility study I'm working on requires me to consider the repeat period of the noise source; a real issue if it is a prbs source, but not if somehow the algorithm accesses an analog noise source.

thanks in advance for any insight you can offer.
