Dear support team,

Can ADUA1701 evaluation board receive S/PIDF input with USBi?

I think that the board can't receive it with USBi.

But, the board can receive S/PDIF with USB cable(USB B connector).

Recent version of ADAU1701 Evaluation board is not be able to controlled by USB connector(not USBi).

So, It can't receive S/PDIF anytime, I think.

Best regards,

Takepiro

Hello, from my experience with ADAU1701 eval, the USBi is only the interface between the computer (USB) and the evaluation board using I2C.

the eval board does not contain any SPDIF receiver.

Hello Takepiro,

There are 2 different evaluation boards for the ADAU1701. Both boards use our USBi interface to program the SigmaDSP on the board.

EVAL-ADAU1701MINIZ is a very simple board that does not have an S/PDIF receiver.

EVAL-ADAU1401AEBZ is a more featured board that features the ADAU1401, which is the automotive version of the ADAU1701; it is functionally equivalent to the ADAU1701. This board has both an S/PDIF receiver and transmitter.

Coleman

Hello, Caleman-san,

Thank you for your reply.

I am using EVAL-ADAU1401EBZ.(not MINI board)

Current version can't use USB connector(Direct connect PC to Board by USB cable), I think.

It can use only USBi.

Old version EVAL-ADAU1401EBZ(EVAL-ADAU170XEBZ RevB) can use USB connector and USBi.

When use USB connector , USB micro controller do the communication function between ADAU1401 and PC.

When I use USB direct connect, S/PDIF signal can be used.

But, when I use USBi , S/PDIF signal can not be used.

Is it correct symptom?

Can S/PDIF singnal be used on new EVAL-ADAU1401EBZ?

Best regards,

Takepiro

Hi Takepiro,

The older ADAU1701 evaluation board that includes an on-board USB interface (implemented using the PIC microcontroller from Microchip and an FTDI USB interface) is a bit old and out-dated. However, S/PDIF should work on both the new version of the board (using USBi) and the old version of the board (using the FTDI/Microchip USB implementation).

Please note that special hardware settings are required to use the S/PDIF receiver/transmitter on this board. Please check that your evaluation board's switches and jumpers are configured correctly.

To do so, please refer to page 8 of user guide UG-072: http://www.analog.com/static/imported-files/user_guides/UG-072.pdf

Dear Yagami-san,

Thank you for your reply

When we use old version of the board with "USBi"(not using the FTD/Microchip USB implementation),

Can we use S/PDIF?

Best rergards,

Takepiro

Hello Takepiro-san,

Yes, the S/PDIF function should be available. However, you might need to follow the user guide for the proper hardware setup. Please let me know if you have questions.

Dear Yagami-san,

Thank you very much.

I re-try to check the hardware setup.
