Hi,

I'm writting here to announce that I have just recived an EVAL_ADAU1701MINIBZ evaluation board, which in theory comes with the USBi board, the ADAU1701 board, the USB cables and a POWER SUPPLY.

"The board can be powered either by the USBi or by the included power supply." (QuickStart Guide)

The case is that I bought the board from mouser, but there is no power supply in the package to run the board independently from the computer.

Does anyone had this same problem?

How to obtain the power supply?

Thank you,

Marti

Hi Robert,

I will use the board away from the computer for some testing, and looking for a power supply in the 'trunk of the old things' I found a 5V 300mA supply, and since I will use the board with the amplifier disabled this power supply will be enough (although it's not designed for audio and it makes LOTS of noise!!!!!).

Thank you very much for your answer,

Marti

Hi Marti,

You're right, the -1701MINIZ's documentation does mention a power supply -- while as you noted, no power supply is included with the kit:

The evaluation board Web page doesn't show a power adapter in its photo -- but the accompanying description would have been clearer if the word "supply" was omitted. "Bus-powered" would have been a better way to describe the board's usual power source. None of the "mini" boards actually come with a power unit except the new -1452MINIZ -- its DSP draws too much current to permit bus power.

Fortunately you can evaluate the -1701's self-boot feature even though the board is bus-powered. A project already loaded into EEPROM boots as soon as bus power is applied through the USBi, whether SigmaStudio is running or not. I keep a simple tone-producing project in my EEPROM to let me know the board is working right away. If you need to power your board away from a computer, you can use just about any 5V wall-wart that may be handy. Tip polarity is positive (D1 provides reverse protection). Although there's an on-board 3.3V regulator for the -1701, the included SSM2306 Class-D amplifier is rated only to 5V -- suggesting that the wall-wart should be of the regulated variety. The board draws approx. 110 mA when the amplifier is not enabled, perhaps 1A max with the amplifier in use.

Best regards,

Bob

Hi Marti,

I apologize for the confusion over the external power supply. You are correct that the user guide states that a power supply is included in the package, but there is none shipped with the kit. We are trying to offer the kit at the lowest price possible, and most users will be running the board powered by the USB port. I would be happy to send a supply directly to you, if you like. Please send me a private message with your shipping information (complete address and phone number) and I will take care of you.

Regards,

Coleman
