ADAU1701-MINIZ Communication failure
Hello,
I have just received my evaluation board for ADAU1701 and been playing a few hours with it fine.
However I had some minor trouble using it on different USB port but one was working fine so I decided to uninstall the drivers and to do the installation again.
Since then, I canno't communicate anymore with the DSP!
When I try to 'link compile download', a message box tells me that "A USB communication failure has occured".
The USBi seems to work fine since the color of the USBi title is light orange on SigmaDSP. My computer tells me that the USBi is correctly installed and all the leds seems to light up correctly on both boards.
Does anyone have any idea of the solution?
Thanks for your help
Vincent

Hello Vincent,
Welcome to EngineerZone.
The USBi works best when connected to a USB 2.0 port, see
https://ez.analog.com/message/84442#84442 where BrettG recommends that for now, users avoid USB 3.0 ports. Perhaps it would help if you once more uninstall everything and re-install SIgmaStudio from scratch. When plugging in the USBi during this re-installation, use a 2.0 port first and always.
It is also possible that your USBi has somehow bricked as my first one did shortly after receipt. Mine failed under identical circumstances (I had plugged it into a 3.0 port, not knowing the difference) although I cannot say for sure if that is why it quit. USBi issues do occur, as the thread
https://ez.analog.com/message/110986#110986 demonstrates. ADI has been willing to replace problem USBi boards.
Best regards,
Bob
Thanks, Bob!
Thank you Bob.
Finally I did the installation back again and again and it did not work.
I don't know why but I removed the header connector and plug it back in and this seems to have solve the problem. Now it works fine.. I just don't get it.
Thanks all for your help.
Hi Vincent,
Sorry I sent you in the wrong direction... I'm wondering if a bad connection at the header is also what went wrong with my USBi. My difficulties were exactly the same as yours, but I never did troubleshoot it as far as you did. This is a bit ironic since I work for a contract manufacturer and deal with this sort of stuff all day! There's nothing worse than intermittent hardware in a software debug tool, so make sure you didn't get a "lemon". By all means examine (under magnification) the connection path, including the small ribbon cable's termination at the USBi, the condition of that cable, and the header on the -1701 board. Gently flex these connections while doing something that needs constant communication (for example, operating a Real-Time Display). Of course if you find any latent issue, you need not repair it yourself!
Best regards,
Bob
