I am trying to get the following configuration to work, but failing. Am I trying to do something impossible?

Serial I/O 0 : TDM6 - 6 channel - 16 bit per channel - (Flexible TDM Mode) ADAU1442 is slave. clock slaved to external device

Serial I/O 1: Unused

Serial I/O 2: TDM2 - 24 bit per channel - ADAU1442 is the master at 48KHz

Serial I/O 3: TDM2 - 24 bit per channel - ADAU1442 is the master at 48KHz

Serial I/O 4: TDM2 - 24 bit per channel - ADAU1442 is the master at 48KHz

Serial I/O 5: TDM2 - 24 bit per channel - ADAU1442 is the master at 48KHz

1) Is it possible to have flexible TDM combined with ASRC?

2) Is it possible to have 16bit TDM6 as your flexible TDM?

If 1 and 2 are both possible, I would really appreciate a walkthrough for this configuration, similar to https://ez.analog.com/message/56822#56822, as I have been spinning my wheels for days on this issue.

In Flexible TDM mode, the serial port expects to receive 32 slots of 8 bits each, for a total of 256 bits, and it will reserve the first 8 channels of the serial inputs.

From ADAU144x datasheet:

In flexible TDM mode, each flexible TDM stream includes 32 bytes (called slots) of information for every frame on the frame clock.

In your intended use case, you want 6 x 16 = 96 bits. Since this doesn't match with the expected 256 bits, I'm not sure if it will work. There is a chance, however, that it could possibly work in slave, because all of the serial port logic is based on counters. It's possible that a new incoming frame clock edge would reset the counters back to zero even though a full 256 bits hasn't arrived yet. We've just never tested the flexible TDM mode with anything except 256 bits per sample, so I don't know if it will work or not.

You could give it a try! The settings would be as follows:

Register 0xE1080: 0000000001000000

Register 0xE1081: 0000000001000010

Register 0xE1082: 0000000001000100

Register 0xE1083: 0000000001000110

Register 0xE1084: 0000000001001000

Register 0xE1085: 0000000001001010

Once the audio channels are in the routing matrix, you can route them anywhere. So...

Yes.
