Thread Summary

The user is experiencing a 20 dB boost in the output signal when using the EVAL-ADAU1401 AEBZ kit to evaluate the ADAU1701 in a pass-through configuration. The final answer suggests that the issue might be related to the default output attenuation of -6 dB on the evaluation board. The user is advised to measure the actual voltage levels on the board and provide the SigmaStudio project file for further analysis.

Hi,

I am currently working with EVAL ADAU1701 kit.

I designed a project which takes the input and directly gives it to output(pass through). But instead of producing the same signal at the output as given in the input, it produces a signal with 20 db boost. Can any one help me out in finding why this behaviour?

Regards,

Rithu

Which evaluation board are you using? EVAL-ADAU1701MINIZ or EVAL-ADAU1401AEBZ? Both of them are used to evaluate the ADAU1701.

Here are some questions that will help us with debugging:

Are you using analog input/output or digital input/output?

If you are using an analog input, what is the signal level of your input in Volts, peak-to-peak?

If you are using an analog input, what is the signal level of your output in Volts, peak-to-peak?

Which ADCs and DACs are you using? Be aware that on the EVAL-ADAU1701MINIZ, DACs 0 and 1 are connected to a class D amplifier which will provide boost to the signal.

Can you please attach your SigmaStudio project file so we can verify?

Are you aware that the input full-scale level of the ADAU1701's ADCs is different than the output full-scale level of its DACs in the default evaluation board circuit? By default, the output is attenuated by approximately -6 dB compared to the input. More details here: https://ez.analog.com/message/86646#86646

Hi Brett,

Pl find the answers for your queries.

We are using EVAL-ADAU1401 AEBZ kit to evaluate ADAU1701.

We are using Analog input/output.

I ve attached the input file ,output file and the project file along with this post for reference ,which answers your queries related to input peak to peak voltage.

Hello rithu,

You sent me some recorded digital audio files, which describe the signal levels after passing through a recording interface connected to the computer. Unfortunately, this doesn't give me the whole story, because without knowing the details of the recording interface, I can't tell what effect it is having on the recorded signal.

It looks like there is some dynamics processing going on here. What recording interface are you using?

Are you able to actually measure the voltage of the signals on the evaluation board?

Rithu,

I did a quick test and if I put a 2 Vrms sine tone on the ADC inputs (prior to the voltage-to-current resistors), I can get 0.9 Vrms on the output.

Thanks,

Brett
