Setting and arbitrary start level for push-button volume control

I have a project that will utilize push-buttons for volume level up and down, but I would like to have the start up level to be some arbitrary value within my look-up table instead of zero/mute. There does not seem to be any way to accomplish this with the GPIO conditioning block for this function.

Thanks!

Hi audiolab1,

Try connecting a DC source set to 28.0 format and the integer corresponding to your desired table index to the light-green input pin on your PB-Volume block (where the Interface-Read input might otherwise go). When I tried this on my HW, it did set the initial volume accordingly. For some reason I could not get my up and down buttons to work (with or without the DC source), but I'll assume that's a separate problem.

Hi Bob,

That looks like a good idea, but without the Interface Read block the PB-Volume block is locked at the index specified by the DC level. In other words the start-up level is correct, but the push buttons cease to function.

I'm guessing that a pulse generator on a timer could be used to step the level up to the required value on turn-on, but this seems inelegant. This would be a good candidate for a feature request as I'm sure it would be simple to implement within the block and I'm likely not the only person who requires this functionality.

Absolutely. I'm still wondering why a DC source won't work with this block. Perhaps a ADI engineer could weigh in on that.

There must be a show or something going on somewhere, as the ADI engineers seem to be MIA.

Or they are just tired of my questions!

Hi audiolab1,

Sorry for the delay in responding. I'm still trying to track this one down. Unlike many of the Frequently Asked Questions that pop up on EngineerZone, this one is really a Rarely Asked Question, so it's going to take some research on my part to solve it.
