Skfir Question

Hello again peoplez! I have faced such a delicate question: the thing is I have a two sine signal sources, which I mix to a single output, I would like to have an ability to regulate the level of each of them separately. For this reason I use auxiliary ADCs. What I would really like to do is to implement such a function, so that if the combined level of those two sources reaches a certain level, the output switches off say for 1 second (or switches to some other tone generator for 1 second), so that the user could understand that the level is too high and turn the volume of some of the sources down. Is there any way to implement that? I tried different ideas but haven't come up with something acceptable. Any help would be so much appreciated!!

Hi Skfir,

It appears you need a pulse-stretcher to catch the moments when your signal exceeds the desired level and stretch them to a long enough time to hear. The design shown provides this function with a timer.

Whenever the input level exceeds the threshold set by DC source DC3, the output ducks for a time set by DC4. If the input remains too high, the output cycles on and off at about a 1 Hz interval. Reducing the input level below threshold restores normal operation.

To provide an alternate signal instead of silence, insert it instead of zero at the slew mux. On the other hand, if silence is OK, you don't mind audible clicks when switching on and off, and would rather conserve instructions, replace the slew mux and nearby buffer gate with a multiplier.

Best regards,

Bob

Now that you've been around the block a few times with SigmaDSP, likely you can. Keep monitoring the forum, and sooner or later someone will ask about a problem you've already figured out for your own projects. Then jump in and help. That first answer breaks the ice; afterwards you'll be all over this thing. Have fun!
