Hello everyone,

I am thinking about an idea to use ADAU1701 to make an active audio filter with 2 analog input and 4 analog output. The problem is that the SNR of the internal ADCs and DACs of ADAU1701 is not good enough for me. Therefore i need to use 2 external ADCs and 4 external DACs to connect to ADADU1701. As i know, i need to connect these external ADCs and DACs to the GPIO pins, right? And How can i configure or program in Sigma Studio to use these ADC and DAC?

I will use 24 bit ADCs and DAC with SNR> 110dB.

Please help me, i have just knew SigmaDSPs for some days.

Thanks in advance!

Hello,

Sorry for the late reply.

Yes, you can use external ADCs and DACs, and set up the serial ports on the ADAU1701 to connect with them.

The ADAU1701 has 8 digital input channels and 8 digital output channels, so in theory, you could have up to 8 ADC channels and 8 DAC channels connected to it.

The serial input channels map to the SigmaStudio input channels 2 through 9. More information is here: https://wiki.analog.com/resources/tools-software/sigmastudio/toolbox/io/input

The serial output channels map to the SigmaStudio outpu channels DIG0 through DIG7. More information is here: https://wiki.analog.com/resources/tools-software/sigmastudio/toolbox/io/output

In SigmaStudio's hardware configuration tab, you will also need to set the multipurpose pins to function as serial input/output and clock pins. There are more details about this in the ADAU1701 datasheet.

Hello BrettG,

Thank you for your reply!

I still cannot understand clearly . Let me explain so far about what i understand.

First, the hardware, i will connect my external ADC to MP0 pin( SDATA_IN1) of ADAU1701, then I will connect my external DAC to MP6 pin(SDATA_OUT0) for left chanel and another DAC to MP7(SDATA_OUT1) for the right channel. Because the digital signal output from ADAU1701 is configured as I2S (include high and low frequency signal from DSP), i will use 2 external DAC for left and right channel.

Second, with Sigma studio configuration, something like below:

Sorry if my explanation is really difficult to understand. Please have a look and give me some feedback

Thanks in advance!
