Questions of Input channels and ADI Algorithms for ADAU1701 and SigmaStudio
Dear,
I'm a newer. I have some simple questions need you kindly help.
I want to use ADAU1701 for my project. Questions are :
- 2 analog signals can be input to ADC0 and ADC1, 2 channels of digital signal can be input to MPx through I2S port. Can ADAU1701 DSP core process these 4 signals simultaneously? I want to add algorithm onto each signal.
- In SigmaStudio, I find some algorithms in toolbar, but I can not find related expalation in Help. Such as Pitch transposer, sub harmonic synth... where can I get a complete help file?
- In help file, I find ADI support reverb algorithm, but I can not find it in ADAU1701 toolbar. Where can I get it?
Thanks in advance!
Jackie

Hi Jackie,
Algorithm help is available at:
https://wiki.analog.com/resources/tools-software/sigmastudio/toolbox
Reverb is not included for the ADAU1701 because it only can do about 40mS maximum delay. You could feed a delay block's output back to itself (with a gain slightly below unity) to get an echo effect like that often found in karaoke machines (actually it's not very good), but there isn't enough total delay available in the -1701 to provide a "studio-quality" or "concert hall" reverb. The -1701 has a 50 MIPS core, the SigmaDSPs that support the most algorithms are those with the Gen3 core that runs at 172 MIPS.
I believe the answer to your first question is yes, the DSP can do whatever you throw at it, as long as you stay within the max number of instructions per sample (about 1000 for the -1701 at a sample rate of 48KHz). As you grow your project, you're simply adding more and more stuff for the DSP to do in between samples, merely taking away from its idle time.
Best regards,
Bob

Dear Bob,
Your answer is exactly what I want to know. Thank you very much!
Acturly, I just want to generate a slight reverb just like karaok. But the 2K word RAM will be fully used just for reverb. If I want to use pitch algorithm, seems no way.
In my project, there are several "sound mode". I am planning to compile several images by SigmaStudio( each image is small than 5K bytes ). I plan to merge these images with my main processor image. The main processor will download different image into DSP when needed. I will use SPI mode since its high bps. Is there any thing I must to be careful at ? Thanks.

Jackie
Hi Jackie,
I don't have experience with loading different program flows, however some info is here:

When you switch programs, the DSP mutes for approx. 1/2 second with I2C, I don't know how much faster it would be with SPI.

Hi Jackie,
If you use this tutorial to generate microcontroller code for your project, you could basically make a new "mode" in the sequencer that would do a full download for each of the modes you'd like to have in the system:
Hi Bob,
I think half second silence is not perfect, but it still can be accepted. Thanks.
Hi BrettG
I downloaded all 3 files. I believe they will help me a lot. Thanks!
