SigmaStudio not quite ready for prime time, is there something else?
Is SigmaStudio the only tool available for programming the ADAU1701 DSP, or can I use another development environment like VisualDSP or other from analog, or is there even a third party development environment I can use?
I think the idea of SigmaStudio, where I drop a block onto a workspace, and let it worry about linking and loading and all that stuff is a fantastic paradigm shift in DSP programming.
I really look forward to the future releases of SigmaStudio, but, unfortunately it isn't quite there yet.
My customer is insisting on the 1701, and I will do what it takes to accommodate, but there are some features that I feel are a high priority that don't seem to be included or don't work properly.
#1 Printing, I can't, for the life of me get a large schematic to fit on a page of paper. I tried to move the schematic to the left, or right, tried to compact the blocks to the point of unreadability, but it just won't do the job. This should be made a HIGH priority to fix in the next release.
#2 Zoom, There is no zoom feature so I can see the entire workspace on my screen. The view menu (any other menu) doesn't have a zoom option.
#3 manually route nets. If I move a block, the nets do a poor job of routing themselves for clarity. If I move a bunch of blocks (using a window) I find a bunch of nets crossing over each other or under blocks. While this is a minor issue, it is pesky and takes some time for me to delete and reroute nets.
As I said, I await with anticipation for the next releases, but in the mean time, I need to earn a living. Are there other tools I can use?
I am experienced in assembly and C so I can do it the old way.
Thanks, Mark.

Hi Mark,
Here's a few thoughts about the issues you're experiencing.
Printing was only added in Version 3.x, and as you have found, it still has problems with larger projects -- see https://ez.analog.com/message/64433#64433.
Screen zoom was available in earlier versions but it made updating (tuning) the various parameter boxes and sliders inconvenient -- see https://ez.analog.com/message/2866#2866. The zoom controls were recently removed (or at least, I can't find them anymore!).
You can replace pesky wires with net names by right-clicking a block's output pin and selecting "alias". Aliases can be given sensible names and the destination ones copied to eliminate wires as you would in other CAD programs.
Best regards,
Bob
Hi Mark,
In case you haven't discovered this already -- although SigmaStudio's zoom tools are gone in the 3.7 release, any system-based zoom you have (such as a wheel mouse or pinch gestures on a track-pad) still work. The only problem is that once zoomed either way from exact 100% size, you won't be able to edit values within the blocks. The easiest way to get back to 100% zoom is to save the project, close it and re-open. Actually this no longer works; in ver. 3.7 the zoom level is saved with the project. See Brett's instructions below.

Hi everyone,
With regard to the zooming question...
Ctrl + MouseWheelUp will zoom in.
Ctrl + MouseWheelDown will zoom out.
Ctrl + Shift + F6 will zoom to 100%
When you are at any zoom level other than 100%, you will not be able to modify most of the graphical controls on the audio processing cells, so remember to press Ctrl+Shift+F6 to zoom to 100% when you need to change settings.
The zoom options used to be in the View menu in SigmaStudio, but they seem to have been removed (even though the functionality still exists). I will request to the software team that those menu options are added back in for the next SigmaStudio release.
I had noticed those features had been removed from the View menu. I reverted back to v3.6 in case any other features had been removed by accident. I'll wait until v3.8 is released before I upgrade to v3.7!
