Hi all,

struggling over the digital connection for connect two ADAU1701 devices (again...).

In my setting the Master delivers all clocks and routes (MP10, M11) back to its own clock inputs (MP4, MP5) and to the slave DSP inputs (MP4 and MP5). I can deliver audio from master to slave but cannot see any audio date coming out from the slave!

Here´s my question: Must I also connect the clock signals from the master to the clock outs from slave(MP10,MP11) for some reason?

Or do I have to select both as masters for the clock output?? I am confused

Any help is welcome1

with best regards,

rastariot

Yes, that's correct.

Be careful with the naming conventions here.

MP4 and MP5 are not the clock inputs. They are the clock pins for the serial data input port.

MP10 and MP11 are not the clock outputs. They are the clock pins for the serial data output port.

MP4 and MP5 must always be slaves. That means they will be receiving clocks for the serial data input port.

However, MP10 and MP11 can be masters or slaves. That means they can either generate clocks or receive clocks for the serial data output port.

Clocks must be present on MP4 and MP5 in order for the serial port to receive any input data.

Clocks must be present on MP10 and MP11 in order for the serial port to transmit any output data.

However, MP10 and MP11 are bidirectional, in the sense that they can either receive clocks from an external source (slave mode) or generate their own clocks from the internal clock (master mode). Get it?

In essence, all clock pins need to have a clock signal on them in order for data to pass through.

So, you should take your master IC and connect its LRCLK and BCLK to the slave IC's MP4, MP5, MP10, and MP11 pins.

Hi Brett,

thanks for saying this so clearly!

Got it!

Be careful with the naming conventions here.

MP4 and MP5 are not the clock inputs. They are the clock pins for the serial data input port.

MP10 and MP11 are not the clock outputs. They are the clock pins for the serial data output port.

Unfortunately, in my opinion neither the ADAU1701 manual (pages 11-12 and page 46, RevB) nor sigma studio hardware configuration is really precise (MP10 = "In Lrclk-out") in this matter. Maybe it would also be useful for other users when a common two dsp setting would be added to the manual as an example.

Anyway, thanks for your help!

best,
