ADAU1701 in self-boot mode with reduced power consumption ?

Hi all,

i need to know if it is possible to have the ADAU1701 (configured in self-bot mode) while powered down most of all chip sections (for reduced stand-by consumption) and observing an ADC for small signal input and start-up (function maybe called sleep mode with auto-power-on funktion) ?

Reason for this is the high current of ADAU1701 (1.8V and 3.3V) of about 100mA.

thanks

Bernd

Hi Bernd,

You can configure the registers however you want before generating the self-boot EEPROM image, and the registers will initialize to those values on start-up.

However, the ADAU1701's DSP core does not have access to the hardware registers directly, so it is not able to modify its own register settings after start-up unless there is some external influence (for example, from a microcontroller on the I2C or SPI bus).

The best option, in my opinion, would be to configure the registers how you want in the self-boot EEPROM, and put an input monitor in the signal flow. The input monitor should output a flag to a GPIO pin (see here for an example) and an interrupt-based microcontroller monitoring that pin could then write new register settings via I2C or SPI once the input signal has been detected.
