Where's that 'Advanced Clipper'?
Under Non-Linear Processors, Sigma 3.2 offered an Advanced Soft Clipper with a programmable "Tau" value. The Help section had a good explanation of this function, even giving an illustration of the clipping action. Sigma 3.3 still has the part, but there is no mention of it in the Help section at all. Is this still a valid function in Sigma 3.3, and if 3.2 has been uninstalled, is there an alternate source for detailed info?
I'm using the latest beta that should be released to the website very soon, and the Advanced Soft Clipper is still in the library and still has a help file entry. Which version are you using? It's possible that that cell was mistakenly obsoleted or removed from the build somehow, but that seems unlikely. Note that not all algorithms have been implemented on all ICs, so depending on what IC is in your project, you might not see the algorithm in the library. However, the Help file should show it regardless of what IC is being used in your project.
Just to be sure, are you referring to this cell?
Hmm, it's possible that the 3.3 build simply had a few missing help file sections. That build came out around the time I started being responsible for the help file edits. We use a source control system, so the help file effectively has to be "checked out" when it is edited and then "checked in" so it can be replaced when the software build is made. It's possible that on the day when we did the 3.3 build, I had the file checked out or perhaps mistakenly renamed it. In any case, I guess it's missing!
Rest assured, that page seems to reappear in the help file for beta versions following the 3.3 main release, and I'm getting the hang of this source control system, so you should see it show in the next major release.
For your reference, the HTML for that help file article is included here:
Advanced Clip
_
Hi, Brett, and thanks for the quick reply. I'm using Sigma 3.3 Build 0, Rev 613, which I downloaded a couple of months ago. The "Advanced" Soft Clipper is there in the tool tree, all right, but in the Help section, under Contents, the only Non Linear items listed are: 1) Data Controlled Clip, 2) Hard Clipper, 3) Standard Cubic. In the previous 3.2 version, if I recall correctly, the Standard Cubic and the Advanced (Soft) were described on the same page. In the 3.3 that I have there is no mention of the Advanced one with examples of its Tau settings. And I have searched and searched. Did I get a 'corrupted' Help file, do you think? Just to make sure we're on the same page, as it were, I've attached snaps of my screen for the Tool Tree, within the subject Help section, and the Help index.
