Hi

I am currently designing a circuit using the ADAU1701 part, I wish to add an additional I2S digital audio input. In the datasheet for this part it states the INPUT_LRCLK and INPUT_BCLK are both slaves. Does this mean that these signals must be generated form the additional digital audio input?

Thanks

Steve

The serial input ports on the ADAU1701 are slave-only, so the clocks must be generated from another source. The serial output ports can be set into either master or slave mode, so these clocks could be looped back to the serial input ports if another clock source is not available in the system. Note that the serial port's clocks must be synchronous with the ADAU1701's master clock input (the serial output clocks, naturally, are).

Ok, thanks Jerad that seems fine. So if I wanted to attach 2 additional digital inputs they would both need to support the same I2S sample rate and share the same INPUT_clk and LR_clk. Therefore one of my digital inputs needs to be the master while the other digital input and the ADAU1701 will be the slave (the master digital input will also need to provide the clock for the ADAU1701 to keep all clocks synchronous). The data from one input would go to SDATA_IN0 while the other would go to SDATA_IN1

Would this be the best way to propose this solution?

That's all correct - good luck with your design.
