I've just started evaluating the ADAU1701 eval board and I am not able to write my compiled project to the on-board EEPROM. The code runs fine as confirmed by my Audio Precision, but the code is not loading to the EEPROM. I right click on the 1701 in the Hardware Configuration tab and select "Write latest complied to E2PROM". It goes through the write process but then when I reset the board there is no code loaded and no signal is passed. I'm pretty sure I have the switches and jumpers set correctly but the documentation is very vague in this area. Going under the read/write tab for the EEPROM and pressing "Download file to E2PROM" gives me an unhandled exception error and again nothing is loaded to the EEPROM. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

In order to set up the hardware for writing to the EEPROM, do three things:

Set switches S4 and S5 to the I2C position. S4 is "down" and S5 is "left" when you have the board oriented with the power supply in the upper left.

Set switch S3-1 (SELFBOOT) to the off position. Ironically, this is labeled "ON" on the actual switch. In any case, set that switch to the right.

Remove the jumper from LK7 (WP).

Now compile your project in SigmaStudio and execute the "Write Latest Compilation to EEPROM" function.

Finally, execute the selfboot:

Flip the SELFBOOT switch to the right position.

Press the /RESET switch S1 in the lower corner of the board. Alternatively, unplug and re-plug the power supply from the board.

The self-boot should have completed automatically!

Hi Brett,

I have triple checked everything and went through your instructions step by step, even thought it's identical to what I was doing before. Still no luck. When I hit the reset button after flipping the SELFBOOT switch I have no signal passing through the eval board. This is with a simple schematic as shown in the tutorial. When I compare the data on the EEPROM to the currently compiled code it gives an error saying "At least one 0F different at 01" or something to that effect. When I read the data of the EEPROM it's all FF except for the first bit which is 0F. I have tried this on 2 different computers with both SigmaStudio 3.1 and 3.2. It looks to me like there is something wrong with the EEPROM or this eval board as it seems to load OK but not store the code. Any help would be appreciated!

It's very possible that the EEPROM could be corrupted or simply broken. I'm not sure how we should continue the debugging process.

Perhaps we should give up and simply try to replace the EEPROM. If that doesn't work, we could replace the entire board.

If you're willing to do an EEPROM swap, that would be a good first step. If you'd prefer not to do that, or if it ends up not working, we can arrange to ship you a free board replacement.

Thanks Brett,

I have ordered a couple of EEPROMS and we'll see if a replacement works. If not I'll get in touch for a replacement eval board. Thanks for your help!

Hi Brett,

The EEPROMS arrived today and we swapped out the one on the eval board. Everything is behaving exactly the same, in that it does not want to selfboot. I'm confident that I have everything configured correctly and I have followed your instructions to a "T". I guess it's the eval board itself. How do I go about arranging for a replacement?

Thanks for your help!

Andrew,

Did you ever find the problem? What was the solution? I am experiencing something that sounds identical.

Thanks.

Hi LoKi,

If you look at Brett's instructions above, or indeed the manual for the eval board, you will find that there is a mistake with regards to jumper LK7! LK7 must be INSTALLED to disable Write Protect on the EEPROM, not open as specified above and in the instructions. After figuring that out the Self Boot works perfectly.

Sorry for the typo, everyone!
