Hi all,

What is the best way to build a dynamic processor (compressor) with different blocks? I have found signal envelope tool but how can it be used to have gain reduction? The idea is that I want a separate "RMS"-calculation which controls a level. This way I can make a sidechain compressor (use a different signal for the RMS calculation as the actual "compressed" signal).

Thanks in advance,

Guy

There is no need to build this sort of block from individual blocks; it already exists in the SigmaStudio library. Any of the compressors in the "Ext Detector Input" folders have a separate input pin to drive the detector. This way, a separate signal can be used to drive the lookup table that is performing the dynamics processing on the audio signals. This feature can be used to implement a sidechain compressor, as you've mentioned, or a look-ahead compressor. A look-ahead compressor is implemented by putting a short delay in the audio path and no delay in the detector path. This means that the dynamics processor will start to react to an audio signal before the actual signal is being processed, which can be used to prevent overshoots in sudden dynamics shifts.

The block below shows an example of this type of block. The two green input pins are for the L/R audio and the red input pin drives the rms detector.
