parleam08.extc Question

I am thinking of working on ADAU1701 in self-boot mode. I donot have a evaluation kit and am planning to make my own circuit.

But I don't have access to a USBi and cannot afford to buy it now.

Can I make my own I2C bus converter using a simple Atmega32 or something connected to the serial port of the computer.

What should I consider while making that I2C interface or driver for windows?

Is there any other way to connect to the computer to ADAU1701 for programming?

Or is there anyway I can just program the EEPROM from an EEPROM burner and then boot from the EEPROM?

In that circuit I am basically taking 2ch analog input and producing 2ch processed analog output.

Plz help

The USBi interface is the only communications platform supported by SigmaStudio, so developing your own USB-to-I2C converter would not work. You can use the output files generated by SigmaStudio to load into your own microcontroller, but if you do this you will lose the tool's real-time control and programming of the SigmaDSP. SigmaStudio will also generate the EEPROM files that you can use to load to the EEPROM in your design.

I am interested in doing the same thing. I have an EVAL- ADUSB2 (USBi) but I want to integrate the USBi real time control features on the same PCB as my ADAU1701.

From what I can tell, the USBi uses Cypress FIFO along with Arrow Electronics CY7C68053-56BAXI. The Arrow ucontroller is a simple enough device and auto loads it program from a 24AA256 EEProm. its easy enough to pull the firmware from the 24AA256, even-though it would only be a hex file, that would be enough to replicate the USBi. (I think)

The question is, is this against AD policies? Can I rip their firmware and use it to create my own device?

Hi:

We have seen some other customers do this type of reverse engineering. We don't encourage. it BUT since ADI doesn't make the Cypress part (or anything like it) we don't discourage it (as long as it's used for ADI parts). The one thing we don't allow at any time is, redistribution of SigmaStudio; "the reason" we simply don't have the support structure required to support our customers, customers.

Unfortunately, in many cases, these type of reverse engineering serves as a vehicle to redistribute SigmaStudio as part of a product, and this goes against our License Agreement. For more information please read the full EULA embedded in file in SigmaStudio (or the installation screen).

We do understand that copying the USBi firmware can be used to communicate to our DSP directly by the design house and on a limited basis or to communicate to other ADI parts and therefore we allow those specific use cases.

Regards

Miguel
