ADAU1452 memory limit
Dear AD techs,
i have a quite large project going on and i'm almost at the end of developing. Actually total PM used is around 7200 and i noticed that if i further add cells my program starts to have problems (no audio on the output, some parts of the algorithm don't work as expected).
I'm at a point that if i add a disconnected DC cell it makes difference from algorithm working or not.
I'm writing cause i would like to know if this could be a bug of some sort or if it is just normal behaviour with memory reaching quite its limit.
I can't share schematic but i can send you by PM if allowed so you can check.
This is summary from compiler output:
##### Summary #####
DM0 RAM used: 16263 (of 20480)
DM1 RAM used: 10910 (of 20480)
PM RAM used(Data): 00000 (of 8192)
PM RAM used(Inst): 07191 (of 8192) 4960 instructions (32bit: 2729 64bit: 2231)
Total PM used: 07191 (of 8192)
I observed that whenever PM reaches around 7310 problems arise. Of course i'm not sure this could be the problem and here i am asking for your help.
I'm running Sigma Studio 4.2, system clock is 294.912 MHz, sample rate is 48 kHz.
Hope you can help
Thank you
Omar

Hello Omar,
I think you are running out of MIPS. In the compiler output report it also shows MIPS used where it takes into account looping in the code. So the number of instructions can be less than the max in memory but in execution there are sets of instructions that loop around and in doing so uses more MIPS. It is also an estimate. Your symptoms is what I expect to see when you start running out of memory.
By the way, this post in my email had a different topic and content. So I suppose you figured out the issue with the index controlled filter?
I think you will have to go looking for ways to optimize your code. I certainly would not mind doing that but I am so busy with deadlines right now that I will not have time to do this for a few weeks. I will be in contact.

Hello Dave,
thank you for your help.
The topic about index selection filter was just the same problem. I discovered it was not the filter but every cell i kept adding to the program was causing the same issue, so i edited the post guessing it could be a run out of memory kind of problem.
Don't worry about code optimization, i will go through it. But, would you mind to take a look at the code anyway to confirm i'm running out of MIPS? This would help me to figure out the design limits and make decisions about it.
Thank you
Omar
