What's the use of SD card on EZ kit?

Hello everyone,
Since the on chip memory is being used for Link-Compile-Download in sigma studio, I wanted to know the use of SD card on ez kit.

None of the SigmaDSP family is capable of interfacing directly with an SD card. There is an SPI EEPROM on the evaluation board of the ADAU145x and ADAU146x parts that can be written to and read from by the DSP.

well, apart from Linux-addin, is there another use of SD card? I mean can we just run demo cces/sigma codes on ADSP ez board without SD card?
