Mystic12 Question

I need to use I2C to control an ADAU1466, rather than the serial SPI. I have used an eval board with its serial SPI interface to verify operation of my ADC and DAC circuits (I2S out and in to ADAU1466 serial data ports). I have considerable I2C experience, but I wanted to see if you (or anyone) has an app note on I2C control and/or if someone has actual I2C operating experience for the ADAU1446 that would help validate my schematic design (pinout) for both I2C communications and then operating from an SPI boot loader EEPROM. Also, an example of I2C initialization of registers upon startup would be helpful. Lastly, I know there is a capture window in SigmaStudio that is helpful to monitor to verify instructions, but is there a way to save the capture as a file or stream it to a printer?

Thanks.

Patrick

Hello Patrick,

It is actually too easy. As long as you have the hardware part of the I2C bus correctly setup with the pull-up resistors and all the devices connected to it are all I2C devices, you do not have to change anything else except the setting on the configuration page. The USBi GUI has to be changed to be I2C and the EEPROM setting also has to be changed to I2C so SimgaStudio can communicate with the DSP and the EEPROM.

The ADAU1446 must use an I2S EEPROM and must self-boot using I2C. It is not capable of booting itself using SPI. An external controller can set the comms port to SPI and boot up the part from a controller but it cannot boot itself using SPI.

Regarding the capture window. Just select the first element in the list and then <SHIFT>click on the lest desired element and the entire range will be selected. Then mouse over it and right click and you will have many options for saving the data!

The EEPROM will load in all the register settings. SigmaStudio will set all that up for you.

I am probably missing some of your questions so feel free to ask for more details.
