Knowles mic to ADAU1701
ADAU1701 and Knowles mic SPH0645
Thank your for your help on what may be a newbie problem. I am trying to use the Knowles SPH0645 mic as an input to the ADAU1701.
As I understand it, the ADAU1701 should be configured as a clock master to the mic, the LRCLK and BCLK should be output as a master from the ADAU1701 to the mic via MP10 and MP11 respectively, and brought back into the ADAU1701 via MP4 and MP5.
My hardware and software configurations are shown in the attached figures.
Connected in this way, I receive no output from the ADAU1701. I have tried switching the LRCLK polarity and the BCLK data change, but this has no apparent effect. Might you help me to understand what I'm doing incorrectly?
Thanks in advance.

Hello Mark,
I think this may be too obvious? I do not see a connection from the DOUT to MP0.
That would be the audio data being clocked out of the mic.
Otherwise, from first glance it looks like you have all the correct settings and connections. You did do the one most people do not realize and that is the external connections of MP4--> MP10 and MP5-->MP11
A few other thoughts. The SEL pin will select which channel the mic puts it data on.
You should place some meters in your project so you can see the level in the DSP for troubleshooting purposes.

Thanks, Dave:
As I wrote in a follow up, the system works well now (and yes, I did have the data out connection in place, but didn’t add it properly to the drawing). I ad been having download failures that I hadn't noticed.
I do have lots of trouble making reliable USB connections. I posted a set of notes to the ADI pages that show my workaround, but it’s still a hassle, and I frequently have to restart SigmaStudio when my computer goes to sleep.
While we’re here, I wanted to tell you personally that you have been doing an amazing job of supporting the many people who have questions about the ADAU series.
Hello Mark,
I pretty much never have download failures and I never have an issue with SigmaStudio having to be restarted after the computer goes to sleep. I hardly ever shut my computer down and every morning I wake it up and SigmaStudio is just as I left it and works fine. I do have SigmaStudio crash every once in a while and I do need to close it out and reopen it because it gets too slow when dropping in new objects from the library but otherwise, it works great.
For the download failures, it makes be wonder about your system... The USBi has 1K series resistors on the SPI lines so that can cause issues with long wires but you are using I2C. There are no series resistors on the I2C. What are the pull up resistor values on your board? The USBi has only weak 10K resistors. So if you only have these resistors then that can be the problem. If you have a fairly low value on your board then adding the 10K might be a problem but usually it is not.
How long are your cables?
Do you have a lot of other I2C parts on the bus?
By the way, Thanks for the kind words. I like doing this work.

Like may others on your board, I'm using the Wondom units, which are cost-effective and remarkably well-built. The USBi is carried by the Wondom ICP3 interface board to the their APM2 board. As I'm using pre-built product that doesn't include schematics, I can't readily determine the values of the pull-ups. The cables all are short: <6'.
I suspect that the problem is elsewhere. I don't have a windows machine, so I am using windows in a virtual environment (Parallels) on my Mac computer. My guess is that something in that level of indirection of the USB interface might be the problem.
While I have you: In SigmaStudio, I often have trouble finding processing blocks in the tree. Is there a way to search for a block by name?
best,
---Mark
Hello Mark,
I understand fully. I also have used the Wondom boards although I get them through Dayton Audio. What I did was order a connector kit from them and cut the one in half that is the same size as the programmer's connector. Then I wired it to a 10-pin header so I could use my USBi and I did not buy the Wondom programmer. So I had no issues. By the way, for my personal stuff I also use a MAC with Parallels and I have not had any issues. But I am using Windows 7 not Windows 10.
So at the moment, I am not sure what else might be causing those issues you are experiencing.
I agree about the searching the library. We are aware of that issue. For now you might want to try the regular toolbox instead of the Tree Toolbox. It is the icon to the left of the Tree Toolbox. I do not use it often but it is easier to find things.
