Frequency limitation

The manual for the ADAU1761 states that the maximum sampling rate is 96 kHz. We use SigmaStudio for signal processing. Even if we only have input and output, we cannot pass through a wave with higher than 26 kHz. What's the underlying reason for this limitation?

Could you please explain your observation, what happens when your frequency is above 26KHz?
