Hello

I would like to build multitone (sine 1/3 octave) generator for testing audio equipment.

How many sine tone block I can place into ADAU1701 (preffered) or ADAU1446?

I can find any information in datasheet.

How to add up large number of signals without clipping?

Thanks for answer.

Hello,

The ADAU1701 datasheet is all about the chip, not its applicable algorithms in SigmaStudio. The best way to see what you can do with it is to go ahead and download SigmaStudio, build your application, and and see how well it fits. For example, the project shown below has 20 sine wave oscillators. The project uses 412 of the approximately 1000 available instructions @ the base 48 KHz sample rate -- thus, over 40 oscillators would fit.

To find out how many instructions your project is using, Link-Compile-Download it (with or without hardware connected). Then open your project folder, and find the folder called IC1_<project name>. Open this folder, then open the net_list_out folder inside. Finally, open the text file compiler_output, providing a listing like this:

For more info on instruction usage in the ADAU1701, see: ADAU1701 Instruction Usage Table

To mix all your tones together without building up too much level (causing clipping), mix them with Signal Merger blocks instead of Signal Add blocks. Found in the Mixers folder in the Toolbox, the Signal Merger block's built-in loss makes up for the additive level produced by mixing signals together.

Best regards,

Bob

Thanks for fast answer.

I checked it, and 32*sine tone, 3*(group low/mid/high) merger + one master merger takes 38program/algoritm cells (192kHz) and fit into 1701.
