I have a simple schematic executing on the EVAL-ADAU1452MINIZ that generates a sine wave and outputs it to a serial output channel to the AD1938. I can observe this sine wave when it's connected to channels 0 and 1, but none of the other channels. I checked that the serial output is configured as master. I'm sure this is something simple, but the solution is eluding me at the moment.

Hi,

Just to make it clear. Are you really visualizing the I2S waveforms?

Or are you visualizing the output jacks waveforms? Output jacks are related to 0-1 / 16-17 / 32-33 / 40-41 serial channels.

Best regards,

Simon

Hello,

Would you mind attaching the SigmaStudio project? I'll take a look at it in our lab.

Thanks,

Tyler

I'm monitoring the analog output, with output 0 corresponding to OUT1L, output 1 corresponding to OUT1R, etc. I just thought it might be a simple configuration item that I was missing. Your suggestion of checking the serial output is a good one and I will do that and report back.

Aaahhhh--got me!

I reread your post----I need to select outputs 16-17 to get the second 2 channels, which is clear now from table 3 in the user manual. Why the strange channel numbering?

Thanks!

Hi there,

Glad to see this was resolved! The reason for the channel numbering is because SDATA0 and SDATA1 can be used for TDM, up to TDM16. SDATA2 and SDATA3 can be used for up to TDM8. This table from the datasheet gives a little more information.

But, the end result is that there are either 16 or 8 output slots allocated to each serial port, so, for example, SDATA0 occupies outputs 0-15. That means that if you want to use SDATA1 with simple stereo I2S, you will need to use its first two outputs, which would be 16 and 17.

Regards,

Tyler

Tyler, thanks for the explanation--it makes more sense now.
