Hi

I am trying to use the AVC block on a ADAU1761 .All works fine, except the Freeze.

When the input signal is muted. The gain is still increase to the MaxGain Setting. Regardless of the Freeze Setting

In fact the gain slowly increases at the same rate. Regardless of the Decay setting .Once its below the Freeze setting.

Does anyone else seen same issue.

Thanks

Brett

Hello Brett,

Sorry it appears your post got lost in the Processors and DSP space. Not many look here. To get a faster response, post SigmaDSP related issues in the SigmaDSP Processors and SigmaStudio Development Tool space.

Yes, I just tried the ADAU176x Automatic Volume Control and found the same issue with the test setup shown below. Dropping the input level suddenly from max to -34 dB, I see the output level creeping up -- even though the new input level is below the Freeze Level setting of -30 dB. It appears you've found a bug.

Originally before trying this I was going to suggest placing a DC Block filter before the AVC, as many of the Dynamic Processor blocks are DC-sensitive. However, as it turns out the AVC block is not affected by DC.

Best regards,

Bob

Hi all,

Sorry for the late reply.

The current design of AVC has a fixed(slow) decay rate of 12 seconds below the freeze level which was not captured our documentation. Documentation is now updated at Automatic Volume Control [Analog Devices Wiki]

It's possible to produce an infinite-time freeze with a sidechain arrangement like this:

The first peak envelope block measures the level, which is compared to the threshold to determine whether the second envelope block responds to it or freezes (by feedback to itself). The compressor works with the result, allowing you to set a compression curve in the usual way.

Best regards,

Bob
