The user inquired about using 32-bit ADCs/DACs with the ADAU1442 signal processor, which processes 24-, 20-, and 16-bit data. The final answer confirms that the 32-bit ADCs/DACs can be used, with the 8 least significant bits being truncated or ignored, without causing problems.

Hi there,

I have a modular system with an ADAU1442 as signal processor. I would like to use an ADC and a DAC with a bit depth of 32 Bit. I know that the processor con process 24-, 20- and 16 Bit Data, but one audio frame in the I2S stream is 32 bit long. Except of the bit depth, the ADC/DACs have very nice properties and I would like to use them...

Is it possible to use 32 bit ADCs/DACs in combination with the ADAU1442? The 8 LSBs will be truncated/ignored or will the additional Bits cause problems?

Best regards,
