Hi All,

I have encountered a problem when trying to write a file to the EEPROM in 2 of my circuits. One circuit is being sent a 48khz clock, and the second a 96khz, both exhibit the same issue.

When I right click on the ADAU1446 IC icon in sigmastudio to "Write latest compilation to e2prom" it shows bytes being written, but then the DSP ceases functioning and will not boot the file from the EEPROM. Selfboot is held high, and the WP pin is low during the writing process. I have followed the instructions for writing to the EEPROM and read through the forum, but cant figure out what is happening.

I have been able to write to the EEPROM using the 1701 and 1442 DSP EVMS successfully using SigmaStudio 3.8, but just not on the 1446 with the same configuration.

Any tips or support is much appreciated,

Travis

Hi Travis,

First, let me ask, are you using an EVAL-ADAU1446EBZ, or is this your own circuit design? If it is the latter, would you mind sharing your circuit schematic? At least seeing the portion surrounding the ADAU1446 will be helpful.

Thanks Brett,

Here is a snapshot of the circuit, the PLL part of the circuit is different on my actual board to run at 96khz. Thanks.

Hi Travis,

Although it might seem counter-intuitive, the PLL should be set to 256 x FS mode. In your configuration, the PLL is probably not locking.

Please read pages 21 and 22 in the datasheet. That should clear it up for you.

Also, these threads describe it in more detail, if it is still unclear:

https://ez.analog.com/docs/DOC-3167

https://ez.analog.com/message/11631#11631

(These threads refer to a different SigmaDSP, the ADAU1701, but it's still the same concept)

If you change the PLL to run at 256 x Fs, then I believe this should work!

Thanks,

Brett

Hey Brett,

I have already corrected that error, and have audio clocking at 96khz correctly, but the problem still persists.

Also, I have another almost identical circuit using the 1446, but runs at 48khz, and this EEPROM write problems still occurs.

I noticed that even without an EEPROM installed and without the E2prom icon added to Sigmastudio, it will still crash the DSP when clicking "Write latest compilation to e2prom".

Thanks

Selfboot is held high, and the WP pin is low during the writing process.

I actually think you should not enable selfboot when writing to the eeprom, only afterwards.

If self-boot is enabled and the EEPROM isn't programmed, the ADAU144x will try to self-boot, fail, and possibly hold the I2C bus "hostage" as a result. Try disabling self-boot to write the EEPROM and see if that works.

Thanks!

Brett
