SigmaStudio for Measurements
I'd like to use the ADAU1701 as part in a measuring instrument which is not primarily used for audio. Is this an absolute no-no, are there exceptions to the SigmaStudio license possible, or what programming system can be used instead?
Is there a reason why the SigmaStudio license is restricted to audio applications only?

Hi Dirk:
No, SigmaDSP is not reserved for Audio applications only, it can be used for whatever you like. It just so happens that the part, software and evaluation boards were originally designed with audio applications in mind. SigmaStudio license should not be restricted to audio applications only, does it say so in the EULA?. If so, I guess the lawyers wanted to limit the liability. Can you explain openly what you have in mind? (perhaps you want to send me a private message with further detail)
I can tell us that some of our concerns are related to supporting end users on an individual product basis.
If you do decide to contact me privately I can probably point you to some resources you might want to further consider for your product.
Regards
Miguel
Hi Miguel,
Yes, in the EULA 2nd paragraph it says: (file ADI_SWP_SLA.pdf)
"2. THE PERMITTED PURPOSE. The Software may only be used to program products purchased from
Analog Devices (“ADI Products”) for incorporation by you into audio products that are intended for
resale to audio product end users (the “Permitted Purpose”). Code generated by use of the Software may
be loaded onto the ADI Products as incorporated into your audio products but may not be distributed in
any other form."
If you can confirm that the restriction to only "audio" products does not apply, or could have the EULA ammended, I'd appreciate it.
Intended application would be in precision AC test or measurement systems. How can I contact you privately?
Best Regards,
Dirk
Hi Dirk,
Sorry for the lack of response here. We have contacted our legal department and we intend to remove the word "audio" from the EULA, but so far the document is still in the legal department's queue.
I know that several customers have integrated SigmaDSP into industrial applications that have nothing to do with audio.
It may just take some time for the updated EULA to get the official sign-off, but I would advise you to move forward with development.
Thanks! I'll take this as the answer.
Happy Holidays!
