Hi,

I'm ordering the ADAU1701 Mini Evaluation Board for a school project and I have a couple questions. I'm planning on using a microcontroller to talk to the ADAU1701 and control various parameters. What I want to know is if there is a way (for example) to control an LFO rate in the sigmaDSP from the I2C or SPI line?

To rephrase it, basically what I want to do is take rotary encoder information from the microcontroller and send it to the sigmaDSP to control certain paramters.

Also, where can I find some documentation for getting started with this evaluation board?

Thanks,

Jesse

Hi Jesse,

You can find the documentation for the ADAU1701 mini board here

http://www.analog.com/static/imported-files/eval_boards/EVAL-ADAU1701MINIZ.pdf

Also you can find information in this application note on how to use rotary encoder with GPIO inputs and example applications.

http://www.analog.com/static/imported-files/application_notes/AN-951.pdf

Hope this info helps.

Alan

Hi Alan,

Sorry for the confusion. I should have made my question more general. I know that I can use the GPIO with my rotary encoders and the evaluation board pushbuttons but I'm using a microcontroller in my project to control a range of other things such as an LCD display, rotary encoders, pushbuttons, etc... What I want to do is control paramters from my microcontroller in real time. I want to send information to the sigmaDSP from my microcontroller and use this to adjust certain paramters. For another example, I want to control an LFO rate from my microcontroller in real time. Does this make sense? And can I achieve this using the I2C?

Thanks,

Jesse

Hi Jesse,

Yes you can update parameters in real time via I2C writes. If the DSP is running it is best to use the safeload feature of the ADAU1701 so you don't get pops and clicks in your audio output, see page 37 of the datasheet. With safeload you can write 5 parameter address locations in one audio frame.
