Question about the default_download macro (for ADAU144x)

I noticed that in the generated default_download macro that the setting up of the master clock (writing 0x01FF to address 0xE280) is the 18th write operation, however in the datasheet for the ADAU144x it states (p.23): "This [Master Clock Enable Switch Register (Address 0xE280)] is the first register that should be set after the device is powered on and completes its initialization. Failure to set this register may compromise future register writes."

Setting the master clock is called out as being step 3 in the startup sequence (p.20), performed before any other register writes. Am I misinterpreting something, or is this an error in the default_download macro? For now I'm going to manually set that register before calling default_download.

Thanks,

Hi Ryan,

This appears to be an error with the default download macro. Thanks for letting us know. I will talk with the software team about updating the sequence generated by SigmaStudio. For now, I recommend that you go through with your plan to manually update the sequence in your code.

Just as a note it maybe a bug but this still seems to load the chip alright and seems to still function correctly.

Hi Natan,

I guess the idea is that the master clocks should be provided to all sections of the chip prior to configuring individual sub-systems of the chip via register writes. Technically speaking, I think the registers will hold their values regardless of the presence/absence of clocks for the corresponding sub-section, but I guess the recommended sequence in the datasheet is more of a "by-the-book" approach that enables the sub-systems before configuring them.

In other words, you're right, it should work either way. However, just to avoid confusion, I'll try to update the SigmaStudio default download sequence so there is no discrepancy between it and the datasheet.

bump - for the ADAU1445 the initialize/download sequence generated by SigmaDSP still (Dec 2013) bears no relationship to the data sheet...
