dual ADAU1701
Hi everyone,
as mentioned earlier my design consists of two ADAU1701 sigmaDSPs and a microntroller for booting and controling them.
Because our design goals changed, we need to configure the two DSPs in a different manner. Each DSP should process a number of four channels. Due to some routing options we would like to provide the audio which comes from ADC0 and transmit it via I2s to the other DSP and vice versa.
Is there any limitation where to grab the audiosignal from the signal processing flow or can this be done everywhere? Then, I would like to know how to configure the digital audio port in detail. There can be done some settings in the hardware section of the project, then I have to configure the MP pins as well, I guess. Is there any demo sigmastudio project which shows an example configuration?
Any help is appreciated!
best,

I attached a project file that routes the ADCs from SigmaDSP1 to the serial inputs of SigmaDSP2. Those combine with the 2 ADC channels on SigmaDSP2 to give you 4 total channels. The 4 channels are then processed in DSP2 and sent over the serial port to DSP1. They are processed in DSP1 and then output on the 4 DACs.
If you don't understand let me know and I can show you a basic block diagram.
Note that the two ADAU1701s have different I2C addresses in the Hardware Configuration tab.
You can check the register settings pages to see how I set up the registers.
The serial ports are in TDM (8 channel) mode. DSP1 is master and DSP2 is slave.
Hi Brett,
thanks for the project that made it clearer! I took a look and found that you did not set TDMenable in the output section, only in the input section. Is this correct?
best,
Maritn
Ah, you're correct. TDM should be enabled on both the output and the input.
I didn't actually try this project on real hardware, so you might have to tweak a few things in order to get it set up properly. At least it should be a good starting point.
Yes, indeed it is. I just wanted to get sure...
Hi Brett,
I attached a file that should behave as following:
In my two DSP setting every DSP gets one (analogue) ADC channel and routes this through the digital interface to the other DSP. Each DSP has two analogue outputs (DAC). Therefore I chose an I2S interface.
What I did not understand right now is how the signals are transferred to the I2S. In case of stereo I2S would need two channels in daisy-chain. How is the routing done from the schematic to the real hardware interface?
Dig0 and Dig1 would be left and right channel of the hardware interface and would be transferred via SDATA_OUT0 ?
How about the input selection, where can I set on which input pin is what digital audio channel?
best,
martin
When the pins are in 2 channel I2S mode...
SigmaStudio Input Pin 0 = Left ADC
SigmaStudio Input Pin 1 = Right ADC
SigmaStudio Input Pin 2 = SDATA_IN0 channel L
SigmaStudio Input Pin 3 = SDATA_IN0 channel R
SigmaStudio Input Pin 4 = SDATA_IN1 channel L
SigmaStudio Input Pin 5 = SDATA_IN1 channel R
SigmaStudio Input Pin 6 = SDATA_IN2 channel L
SigmaStudio Input Pin 7 = SDATA_IN2 channel R
SigmaStudio Input Pin 8 = SDATA_IN3 channel L
SigmaStudio Input Pin 9 = SDATA_IN3 channel R
SigmaStudio Output DIG0 = SDATA_OUT0 channel L
SigmaStudio Output DIG1 = SDATA_OUT0 channel R
SigmaStudio Output DIG2 = SDATA_OUT1 channel L
SigmaStudio Output DIG3 = SDATA_OUT1 channel R
SigmaStudio Output DIG4 = SDATA_OUT2 channel L
SigmaStudio Output DIG5 = SDATA_OUT2 channel R
SigmaStudio Output DIG6 = SDATA_OUT3 channel L
SigmaStudio Output DIG7 = SDATA_OUT3 channel R
When in TDM8 mode...
SigmaStudio Input Pin 0 = Left ADC
SigmaStudio Input Pin 1 = Right ADC
SigmaStudio Input Pin 2 = SDATA_IN0 TDM slot 0
SigmaStudio Input Pin 3 = SDATA_IN0 TDM slot 1
SigmaStudio Input Pin 4 = SDATA_IN0 TDM slot 2
SigmaStudio Input Pin 5 = SDATA_IN0 TDM slot 3
SigmaStudio Input Pin 6 = SDATA_IN0 TDM slot 4
SigmaStudio Input Pin 7 = SDATA_IN0 TDM slot 5
SigmaStudio Input Pin 8 = SDATA_IN0 TDM slot 6
SigmaStudio Input Pin 9 = SDATA_IN0 TDM slot 7
SigmaStudio Output DIG0 = SDATA_OUT0 TDM slot 0
SigmaStudio Output DIG1 = SDATA_OUT0 TDM slot 1
SigmaStudio Output DIG2 = SDATA_OUT0 TDM slot 2
SigmaStudio Output DIG3 = SDATA_OUT0 TDM slot 3
SigmaStudio Output DIG4 = SDATA_OUT0 TDM slot 4
SigmaStudio Output DIG5 = SDATA_OUT0 TDM slot 5
SigmaStudio Output DIG6 = SDATA_OUT0 TDM slot 6
