When using SigmaStudio to program the self-boot EEPROM for a 1701 how can you enable the multiple write-back feature?

The datasheet explains that the command 0x04 needs to be included in the boot sequence but I cannot work out how to force this from within the software. I guess I may have to edit the hex file directly? If so can anyone show an example of the required modification as I'm a little unclear from the datasheet description.

Also, once a write-back is triggered can the 1701 continue uninterrupted or will it reset automatically (or need resetting manually)?

I ask because I'd like to be able to trigger a write-back at any time without any disruption to normal function.

Thanks,

Dave.

Dave,

In order to trigger a write back at any time, you will need to add the command 0x04 to the selfboot sequence. You're correct that there is not a way to enable this directly in the SigmaStudio EEPROM generator; you will have to add this to your EEPROM image manually. You can add this command at the end of the selfboot content, before the "End and wait for writeback" command (0x06).

The ADAU1701 can continue to run following a writeback.

Thanks! That seemed to work great. The only weird thing I experienced was using WinE2promloader. I pulled the E2 data into the window, edited the file on screen and then tried to write it back to the E2 but the software said that the E2 was too small (200% required). I just fudged the E2 size in the control panel so it thought the memory was 16k, not 8k and that fixed it and worked fine. Not sure why it thought I needed 16k though? It definitely fits in 8k....

Another question along similar lines: The WinE2promloader window allows you to save and retrieve data from a file but it doesn't specify an extension? I tried various extensions but although the file would save with the data in it I could not get the WinE2promloader window to display the contents? (I'm using version 3.1, build 20, Rev 375, 2/16/2010)

Cheers,

David.
