As internal gains of 24db are possible in SigmaDSP processors it would be useful to have level detectors that could indicate this, whether by definable range or simply having a 24db max rather than the current 6db.

Probably asking too much but a SigmaStudio virtual decoder/oscilloscope would be nice, if only for outputs. It's difficult to tell whether a problem is in the processor or subsequent decoding.

Gordon,

The maximum range of the level detectors is limited by the SigmaDSP's internal linear-to-dB conversion hardware. The output of this is a maximum of +6 dB.

I agree that having a SigmaDSP simulator (that's basically what you're describing, I believe) would be helpful to have, but of course that's a pretty big software project. For now, hopefully the level detectors and read back cells can help you to debug most of your problems.

OK, thanks Gerard. It's not difficult to do a divide and manual conversion so it'll have to do. Just though it was worth asking.

Hi Gordon,

A simple workaround would be to manually shift the input gain range of the level detector by putting a -6 dB or -12 dB gain block directly before it. This will of course increase the lowest detectable level, and you'll have to mentally add 6 or 12 to the value displayed by the meter.

Using a T connection and two level detectors, one "normal" and one "extended range" would solve the problem.

Works fine thanks Brett.
