I need documentation on the SigmaStudio software tool, as well as on the processing blocks that are included in the tool. Where can I find this information?

SigmaStudio includes an extensive help document with the software installation. You can access the fully-indexed and searchable help file through "Help" in SigmaStudio's menu bar. You can also bring up the help page for a specific SigmaStudio block by just highlighting that block in your design and pressing F1.

Extensive? You have to be kidding. The help file is seriously lacking. Just for starters: there is no min/max stipulations on the linear amplifiers (you have to just manual figure out the max is 15dB), you can't cascade the volume controls nor can you set the volume greater than 20dB, and lastly the input block has no indication of what the input number corresponds to in the real world.

I have written technical documentation and this help file is inadequate for even an experinced engineer and frustratingly worthless to a novice!

Sean,

I'm sorry that you're frustrated working with the SigmaStudio help file. We are constantly updating and improving the help file in parallel with developing the SigmaStudio tool itself. I understand that there are some parts that are lacking information; these are the sections we target for updating and improving. In the meantime, though, this forum is a great place for you and other users to ask questions about things that are not clear.

To address some of your specific concerns mentioned above:

The gain on the linear amplifiers is limited by the 5.23 parameter word format. The 4 headroom bits above the 1.0 full-scale level provides 24 dB gain, or 15.9999... linear gain. The value in the linear gain parameter block is a linear value, not dB. The range of the parameters for this block are specified in the SigmaStudio help file.

You can cascade multiple volume controls. Could you show an example (or post a .dspproj file here) of where this isn't working for you?

For a SigmaDSP with ADC inputs, such as the ADAU1761, the first input pins correspond to the analog inputs. The following pins correspond to the serial port digital inputs (8 channels, in the case of the ADAU1761). See the example below.
